Ride-Hailing Apps

PassApp (Recommended)

Cambodia's homegrown ride-hailing app — cheaper than Grab for most rides.

  • Pricing: ~3,000 riel pickup + 1,000 riel/km
  • Vehicles: Tuk-tuk, car, SUV
  • Catch: Requires a Cambodian phone number to register. Get your SIM card first!
  • Available in: Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, Battambang, Sihanoukville, Kampot
  • Download: Google Play · App Store

Grab

Works with international phone numbers — your fallback before getting a local SIM.

  • Pricing: Higher than PassApp but transparent
  • Available in: Phnom Penh, Siem Reap
  • Vehicles: Bike, tuk-tuk, car
  • Download: Google Play · App Store

Tuk-Tuks

The iconic Cambodian transport. If not using an app, always negotiate the price before getting in.

See our Fair Price Guide for reference prices by route.

Tip: Drivers outside tourist attractions quote inflated prices. Walk 50 meters away and flag one passing by — you'll get a much better rate.

Intercity Buses

Company Route Duration Price
Giant Ibis PP → Siem Reap 6-7 hours $15-18
Giant Ibis PP → Sihanoukville 5 hours $14-16
Mekong Express PP → Siem Reap 6 hours $13-15
  • Giant Ibis is the tourist favorite — clean buses, WiFi, USB charging, free snack
  • Book online via their website or 12Go Asia
  • Buses depart from company offices, not a central station

Domestic Flights

  • Phnom Penh → Siem Reap: ~45 min, from $50-80 one-way
  • Airlines: Cambodia Angkor Air, Lanmei Airlines
  • New Siem Reap Airport (SAI): Opened 2023, but it's 45km from Angkor Wat (the old airport was much closer)

Road Safety

Cambodia has one of the highest traffic fatality rates in Southeast Asia. Be cautious:

  • Always wear a helmet if riding a motorbike
  • Avoid driving at night outside cities
  • Drunk driving is common, especially around holidays
  • If renting a motorbike, ensure you have valid travel insurance that covers motorbike accidents
