Where to go when you need medical help

Last updated: April 17, 2026

Key Hospitals

Quality healthcare is concentrated in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap. Outside these cities, options are very limited.

Phnom Penh

Hospital Notes
Raffles Medical Phnom Penh Part of Singapore's Raffles Medical Group, English-speaking staff, direct billing with international insurers
Sunrise Japan Hospital Japanese-invested, advanced diagnostics, highly recommended
Sen Sok International University Hospital Singaporean-managed, specialist consultations

Siem Reap

Hospital Notes
Royal Angkor International Hospital Best option in Siem Reap, English-speaking staff
Naga Clinic Good for minor issues

Typical Costs

Service Cost
Doctor visit (international hospital) ~$60
Visit with blood tests/X-ray $120+
Dental cleaning $15-30
Dental filling $10-30
Pharmacy medications $1-10

Travel Insurance

Travel insurance is essential. Cambodia's healthcare has significant limitations:

  • Serious conditions often require medical evacuation to Singapore, Ho Chi Minh City, or Kuala Lumpur (~$20,000+)
  • No free public healthcare for foreigners
  • Make sure your policy covers:
    • Medical evacuation
    • Motorbike accidents (if you plan to ride)
    • COVID-19 treatment

Popular providers:
- SafetyWing (~$45/month) — popular with nomads
- World Nomads — good for adventure travelers
- APRIL International — comprehensive plans

Pharmacies

Pharmacies are everywhere in Cambodia and most medications are available over-the-counter without prescription. Common items:

  • Antibiotics, anti-diarrheal, pain relief
  • Antimalarials (if heading to remote jungle areas)
  • Oral rehydration salts
  • Insect repellent with DEET

Warning: Check expiration dates on medications. Counterfeit drugs exist — buy from reputable pharmacies in cities.

Vaccinations

Recommended vaccinations before visiting Cambodia:

  • Hepatitis A and B
  • Typhoid
  • Tetanus
  • Japanese Encephalitis (if visiting rural areas)
  • Rabies (if spending time around animals)
  • Malaria prophylaxis (only needed for remote jungle areas — not Phnom Penh or Siem Reap)
