The Story Behind Cambo-Guide
An independent, unsponsored travel resource — built by one person who loves this country.
Hello, I'm Vandy
I'm Vandy Sodanheang, a backend software engineer based in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. By day I work as Deputy Head of R&D at Soramitsu Khmer Co., Ltd, building the backend infrastructure behind Cambodia's digital payment ecosystem — micro-services, fintech platforms, and blockchain systems. My daily tools are Spring Boot, Ktor, and Ruby on Rails. You can learn more about my work at vandysodanheang.info.
Cambo-Guide is a personal project outside of that work. I built it in my own time, because I noticed foreigners arriving in Cambodia often struggle with scattered, outdated, or misleading information — and I wanted to help.
No Sponsors, No Agenda
This website has no sponsors, no affiliate deals, and no paid placements. No hotel is paying for a mention. No tour operator is on a commission. No restaurant is featured because someone handed me an envelope.
The goal is simple: give tourists the kind of practical, honest information I would want a friend to give me if I were landing in a country for the first time. Fair prices, safety tips, visa guidance, and destination advice — the way a local would tell you, not the way a marketing page would sell you.
Share Your Experience
If you've visited Cambodia and have something to share about your trip — a tip that saved you money, a scam you got caught in, a hidden gem, a warning for others, or just a story — I'd love to hear it. Good experiences or bad, both are welcome. Honest feedback is how this guide keeps getting better.
Built With Claude Code
This website was built with Claude Code (Opus 4.7 model) by Anthropic, pair-programming alongside me. The stack is Ruby on Rails, Hotwire, and Tailwind CSS. The content is written by me; the code was shaped by both of us.
